Cafe del Patio Gourmet Restaurante and a Fire

Yesterday, we joined our friends Diane and John for lunch at Cafe del Patio Gourmet Restaurante in Grecia. I thought this was one of the best, if not the best, restaurants in town. We always try a different place when we meet for lunch.

Cafe del Patio is on a busy street but behind walls and you walk into this serene, treed outdoor area complete with a waterfall. They grow their own herbs. Staff is helpful and friendly and, if you need it, English is spoken. They also have English menus. There is a large chalkboard listing the day’s specials.

I decided on the salmon with prawns and chose patacones and yuca fries, and for my drink limonada with mint. Here’s a recipe for this refreshing drink. I’ve also had it with mixed herbs. Lance ordered the tuna with almond sauce, Diane the chicken taco salad (I think that’s what it was) and John had the vegetarian sandwich. All our choices were delicious and the portions were generous - so much so that everyone took home leftovers. We were given slices of warm, fresh bread to dip into our salmon and tuna sauces. We didn’t order dessert but the choices looked yummy. The guys had ice cold Imperial beers.

Driving home, we noticed a lot of smoke in the area not far from where we live. It worsened during the afternoon. We could hear the flames crackling and popping. At one point, our Cat was very upset and started meowing and panting. I put him in our bedroom with the floor fan on and he calmed down. I guess for animals any hint of fire is a warning to run. We have been experiencing high winds and at this time of year it is very dry. The fire had been brought under control by the time darkness fell.

I made a short video - the smoke worsened later.
